There are many different flavors of Linux as J.A. Watson points out in Linux and breakfast cereal: Why are there so many flavours? But, we differ some on what's what at the breakfast table. Pull up a chair and let me dish you out some of my home-cooking.

Chrome OS: Instant oatmeal.

It's fast, it doesn't require any Linux cooking, and it's what you need to work all the day long. Sure, it's not as fancy as the others, but did I mention how fast and easy it was? Pass me my Chromebook Pixel will you?

You know what I like most about oatmeal? You can always add something new to it. It comes in three different editions: workstation, server, and cloud. On top of that there's endless ways to prepare it with different desktops.

It's good, it's basic, and it goes with all kind of meals: clouds, servers and desktops. Maybe it's not that tasty, but slap some butter and maple syrup on it, and it's yummy.

It's older than dirt--it's the oldest Linux distro that's still shipping and it's not for everybody, but it is good for you.
