Photos: Celebrating at the Icon Awards

The members of Green Day--from left, Mike Durnt, Billie Joe Armstrong and Tre Cool--won an Icon Award on Thursday night at Music for America's award celebration honoring musicians and politicians for promoting political awareness and social responsibility. The event, emceed by Moon Zappa, also honored the band Death Cab for Cutie and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newson.

Music for America Executive Director Molly Neitzel, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and MfA co-founder Dan Droller at MfA's first Icon Awards celebration, which honored musicians and politicians for raising the political awareness of young prospective voters and advocating social responsibility.

The awards event was a hipster's dream, with mojitos the signature cocktail, a silent auction of a guitar played by Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and late-night dancing with SambaDa.

Two of the young attendees at Music for America's Icon Awards, held at a loft/art gallery/club called Terra in San Francisco's South of Market district Thursday night. The event simultaneously feted donors such as tech venture capitalist Andy Rappaport and bands such as Death Cab for Cutie.
