Company announces a challenge to AMD's Opteron processor--servers with Intel's dual-core Xeon chips.

Dell's PowerEdge 1855 blade server boasts a dual-core 2.8GHz Intel Xeon, which in many tests outperforms the single-core equivalent running at 3.6GHz.

This is one of the first batches of servers to challenge AMD's dual-core Opteron chip.

The Dell Precision 670 is powered by a dual-core Intel Xeon 64-bit chip. It also comes in a smaller chasis--the Dell Precision 470.
