Sprint Family Locator uses GPS technology to pinpoint the location of a phone and display it on a map.

Sprint unveils the Sprint Family Locator Service by WaveMarket, a GPS location-finding service. Sprint Nextel touts Family Locator as a tool for parents to remotely track their child's exact location. But it can be used to track anyone's whereabouts.

Subscribers to the Family Locator can list up to four phone numbers that they want to track. The service can be used on 17 different phones and can keep tabs on 30 GPS-enabled phones. It will cost $9.99 per month.

After finding the phone's location on a map, a subscriber or parent can use a menu that will help send a text message, call the number or provide more information.

Phones can also be located on a special secure Web site.

Sprint locator

Parents can program the service to automatically send them a text message at a specific time each day to confirm their child's whereabouts.
