PhotoMath

An app which may prove to be a firm favorite with students everywhere, PhotoMath promises to solve equations and math problems by "seeing" the formula using your smartphone's camera. Find a problem, point your smartphone's camera at the equation, and the app will do all the hard work for you -- but will also show you a step-by-step guide in how the app came to a solution.

Wayfare

Originally called Wander, Wayfare acts as a digital pen pal system for today's mobile device users. After you have input basic information including country and city, you select a destination you're interested in and are connected to someone using the app in that location. Skype Qik

Will Skype Qik, Microsoft's new mobile-only video messaging service, be able to compete against the likes of Apple's Facetime, Google Hangouts and Facebook Messenger? Time will tell, but the app -- which allows you to send 42-second video messages to friends -- could help Microsoft tap into the mobile market.
