There is a vast array of smartphone and tablet apps out there for people who need to work on the move — from calendar planners to office applications, note-takers and collaboration services. ZDNet UK presents a round-up of the most useful.

Evernote
Evernote lets you create text, audio or photo notes. These notes can then be organised and tagged, linked to a particular location and indexed for search. The photo tool is useful for grabbing shots of a whiteboard during a meeting, while the app can also 'clip' web pages for future reference.

This free app is available for iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, Palm and Windows Mobile devices.

In conjunction with a Dropbox account, the Dropbox app lets you access and share different types of files. With Dropbox, you can download files for offline viewing and share links to your files.

Dropbox gives you 2GB of online storage for free; upgrades are available to 50GB for $9.99 (£6.20) a month or 100GB for $19.99 a month. The app is free and available for iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry devices.

This remote working app lets you control your PC or Mac from your smartphone or tablet, giving you access to all your desktop files and software. To use LogMeIn Ignition, you'll need to install LogMeIn software on the target computer.

Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite is available for around £5.99 for iPhone and iPad. Quickoffice Pro is currently available for around £6.22 for Android devices.

Microsoft OneNote is currently available for the iPhone and iPod Touch for free via the US App Store, with pricing correct at the time of writing.
