UAG Plasma series case for LG G6: Lightweight drop protection

The LG G6, see my full review is one of the best smartphones available today while also being one of the lowest priced flagship options. It has a front and back glass panel and like most phones people will probably place it in a case for protection and personalization.

Urban Armor Gear (UAG) is the first place I go when I buy a new phone to see if there is a case designed for that phone. I love the designs, protection, and lightweight construction. I've recommended them to many people over the years and every single person who I know that buys one also ends up completely satisfied with their purchase.

I've been using the LG G6 now for more than a month and UAG sent along the new Plasma series in Ice color to test on the ice platinum LG G6. The two look great together and once again, UAG impresses with its case.

The Plasma series offers three layers of protection with a tough armor shell, rear shock cushions, and impact resistant rubber on the corners and around the front of the frame. The case meets the military drop-test standards, MIL STD 810G 516.6.

As I discussed in my full review, the LG G6 itself has passed military drop-test standards thanks to its integrated center frame design so combined with the additional protection of the UAG Plasma series you should be protected from most accidental drops. The back is still glass, but the UAG armor shell helps protect the G6 from those drops onto the back.

There are ample openings for the camera and flash, USB Type-C port, speaker, headphone jack, and microphone. One design issue that bugs me on the LG G6 is the flatness of the power/fingerprint scanner on the back. It is so much better to have the LG G6 in this UAG case that then significantly improves your ability to find and press the button/scanner without fumbling around.

It's a one piece case available in ice (clear) and ash (gray) colors for $39.95. It is simple to install, just snap your LG G6 down and into place. The front of the case is designed to rise above your display about a millimeter or two so that you can rest your G6 face down on a table and rest assured the display is not directly on the surface.

There are four areas along the sides to help you grip the LG G6 a bit better. Raised buttons for the volume ensure you won't have trouble controlling the volume while your LG G6 is in the case.

The corners have reinforced TPU corners for added drop protection. Most of the time when a phone is dropped and has issues, it's the landing on the corners that causes much of the damage.

The case is very light weight, 45 grams, while it looks substantial and provides great protection. It fits like a glove so your G6 is secured in place. Nothing is compromised, wireless charging still works with the case on, and the case actually optimizes your LG G6 experience.
