There are always cool new apps coming out, so it's hard to keep up. ZDNet Australia brings you a taste of some of the apps that have surfaced or been updated recently.

Clear

Platform: iOS (iPhone)

Clear markets itself as being more than just a generic to-do list app; it's a to-do list app that relies heavily on gesture-based commands, like swipe, pinch, drag and pull, to navigate the multiple levels of your day.

WinZip

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPhone and iPad)

WinZip has released its own mobile app for file compression, file sharing, file encryption and data back-up, letting users open and browse zip files and zip email attachments.

TimePilot

Price: $4.49
Platform: iOS (iPhone and iPad)

This system allows managers to track their employees' work hours and time taken for completing tasks. Workers clock in and out on their phones, and managers can then get real-time calculations of hours worked and see who's currently clocked in. If you don't have the TimePilot Central desktop application with which the app is made to work, you can still use it by uploading your clock-in and clock-out data to a Dropbox account, and view it as a .csv spreadsheet.

Instagram

Instagram has received an update that adds a new filter and streamlines the interface. The new interface is fine, provided that you knew where everything was before, but for new users it takes some getting used to.

Caffeine Zone 2 Lite

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPhone)

If you're wondering whether you've had too many cups of caffeine, then you might like this app. Users input how much caffeine they've consumed, how much they are planning to drink and how quickly. The app says whether it's a good idea or not, and shows the caffeine levels in your body.

Woolworths

Platform: Android, iOS (iPhone)

This app has received an update that lets you do your grocery shopping right from your phone. So now you can just select your groceries, pay for them and then have them delivered at a time that suits you.

Catch

There are a lot of note-taking apps, but every user has a different style. Catch is an app that aims to please as many people as possible, with text, camera, picture and voice notes all enabled, plus a barcode scanner, the ability to create attachments, stream sharing — and even free back-up to Catch.com.

Rdio

Price: Free (but a subscription for web and unlimited devices access costs $9.99)
Platform: Android

Rdio has revamped its Android app, providing one-click access to collection, playlists, new releases, charts and recommendations. With the app, you can play any of the over 12 million songs provided by the company as often as you like, or subscribe to friends' or influencers' playlists.
