There are always cool new apps coming out, so it's hard to keep up. <i>ZDNet Australia</i> brings you a taste of some of the apps that have surfaced or been updated recently.

CardMunch

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPhone)

Cardmunch lets you take a photo of your business cards; these are then sent away, with the fields transcribed and added into a contacts list. The transcription process can take a while, but there's now integration with LinkedIn, enabling you to see the LinkedIn profile information for your contacts.

Metroview Navigation Australia

Price: $18 (Android); $14.99 (iOS)
Platform: Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad)

Metroview is now available on Android. It's a turn-by-turn navigation app, which also has information on what speed you should be doing, and has house numbers. An Australian map is stored in the app, so there's no need for an internet connection.

Scam Buster

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPhone), Android

Scam Buster lets you know about all of the scams that are going on that the government is aware of. It also has steps to take if you are targeted by the scams, and allows you to report scams that you've fallen victim to.

Free UnzipMe

Price: Free
Platform: BlackBerry

Want to be able to unzip a file on your phone, but don't want to pay for an app to do it? With this free one, you start the process by clicking on the zip file. The extracted files go into the same folder as the original archive.

Big W

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPad and iPhone)

The Big W app lets you scan a barcode to see the Big W price for the item. You can also look at the store's catalogue, and put products into a shopping list for when you're next in the store.

Adobe Photoshop Touch

Price: $10.49
Platform: Android

Apply professional effects to images, such as layers, selection tools and filters on your tablet with this Adobe app. You can also share images via Facebook, or search to acquire images through integrated Google Image Search. Projects can also be synced with Adobe Creative cloud.

Roamz

Price: Free

Out somewhere and want to be social? Roamz shows you what's happening around the place you're in, using Facebook, Foursquare, Instagram and Twitter.

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPhone), Android

Tired of Tripview? Download the official NSW Government Transport Info app for trip-planning details and maps for Sydney train, bus and ferry services. It tells you when the next service is coming, plans your trip from A to B and shows transport updates. For phones with GPS capability, the app will detect where you are, and will point you to a relevant stop.
