There are always cool new apps coming out, so it's hard to keep up. ZDNet Australia brings you a taste of some of the apps that have surfaced or been updated recently.

Adobe Photoshop Touch

Price: $10.49
Platform: iOS (iPad), Android

A few months after its Android tablet release, Adobe Photoshop Touch has arrived for the iPad, and it's a much more comprehensive toolkit than the free Adobe Photoshop Express. However, given the limitations of the tablet as a medium, it's still not quite as comprehensive as the desktop version. It contains some of Photoshop's most popular editing tools, such as filters, effects, transform tools, image adjustment and blend modes, all optimised for touch control. It's great for casual or intermediate use, and a really cool way to carry Photoshop around with you.

SonicWall Mobile Connect

Price: Free
Platform: Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad)

This app, now available on Android, lets you access resources from your phone, using encrypted SSL virtual private network (VPN) connections via SonicWall appliances in the business. The idea is that the app, deployed with a SonicWall firewall, will create a clean VPN to decrypt and remove viruses and malware from traffic before it enters the enterprise network. It also identifies whether phones meet certain requirements before allowing them to connect to the company network — for example, if the phone is jailbroken, connections may be rejected.

Although the app is free, it needs user licences for SonicWall Aventail E-Class Secure Remote Access (SRA) appliances running 10.5.4 or higher; SonicWall SRA appliances running 5.5 or higher; or SonicWall Next-Generation Firewall appliances, including the TZ, NSA and E-Class NSA running SonicOS 5.8.1.0 or higher.

GeeReader

Price: Free
Platform: BlackBerry

GeeReader touts itself as a Google Reader client for Google Reader power users. One of the things we love about this reader app is that it opens links from within the app, and not from within your mobile browser. It also gives you the option to see an article as it would normally appear in Google Reader, as it appears on its regular site or as an Instapaper clip. If you buy GeeReader Pro for $1.99, you can also share directly to Twitter, Facebook and WordPress, and the advertising bar disappears.

Qantas Magazine

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPad)

This app lets you read Qantas' in-flight magazine on your phone, as well as see magazine extras such as videos and slideshows. As you read through multiple issues, you can also build your own bespoke mini travel guide.

StumbleUpon

Price: Free
Platform: Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad)

In its updated Android app, StumbleUpon has made the stumbling experience even simpler for its users. First, the home screen shows off more visually appealing thumbnails for each category. You can either tap one or swipe right to begin stumbling. There's also an Explore box, where you can type in an interest in order to experience more targeted stumbling. You can also share via Google+ and log on using your Google account. But perhaps the biggest addition to the StumbleUpon app is its Android Beam support, which makes it easy to share items with other NFC-enabled phones running Ice Cream Sandwich.

Box

Price: Free
Platform: Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad)

There are a few cloud-service file-sharing and file-storage apps out there, but Box recently implemented a promo that gives it a massive advantage in our eyes: if you sign up via Android before 23 March, you get 50GB of storage for free — and it's yours to keep for life.

If you have a BlackBerry PlayBook, a Sony Tablet, an HP TouchPad or an Xperia phone, then you have an even wider window. If you download the app before the end of this year, that 50GB is also yours. You can check out the details here, and the full list of supported devices here.

Seesmic Ping

Price: Free
Platform: iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android, Windows Phone 7

Seesmic Ping, the app that lets you post to several social-media accounts simultaneously (Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn), is now on Windows Phone 7. You choose when and where to publish your posts, and Seesmic takes care of it.

Kodak Gallery

Price: Free
Platform: Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad)

Kodak's mobile app, now on Android, lets you create ad hoc social networks to share your photos. You can set up temporary networks to share pictures, for example, creating one at a conference. You can add other conference goers to the network, and this gives them access to upload and view snaps from the event.
