Unified communications company Polycom says new versions of its RealPresence mobile and desktop video-collaboration apps allow users to share a greater variety of content via a wider range of devices.

While Desktop 3.0 can now run on Apple OS X, users can employ RealPresence Mobile 3.0 on more than a dozen smartphones and tablets, including Apple devices, LG's Optimus G Pro, Samsung's Galaxy S4, and the Sony Xperia ZL and Xperia Z.

According to Polycom, iPad users can share image and content files over Mobile 3.0 in formats ranging from .jpg, .png, HTML and PDF, to PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Polycom's app enables device cameras to be controlled remotely and for tablets to be paired to videoconferencing room systems, so users can control functions such as volume, muting and content.

Both versions of the software are due for general release in July, with Mobile 3.0 available as a free download from Apple AppStore and from Google Play.

The company also says its CloudAXIS video-collaboration suite can now be deployed in virtualised VMware environments as well as on on-premise custom-built systems. The suite enables any user with a browser and camera to access secure video meetings via a mobile device or a room system.

RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite, which is an extension of the RealPresence platform, has secured VMware Ready status, according to Polycom.
