The crowdsourced Edge Windows 8 tablet from gaming peripherals company Razer was unveiled at CES last month with the promise of a Q1 release date. True to its word, Razer will start accepting pre-orders for the tablet and its pricier Edge Pro sibling starting March 1, with the devices shipping to buyers later in the month.

The Edge is one of the most radical Windows 8 tablet implementations yet, starting with beefy hardware and allowing users to add gaming controllers that flank the 10.1-inch display. The $999.99 version includes an Intel Core i5 dual-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB solid state drive, and an Nvidia GeForce GT 640M LE graphics card, while the $1,299.99 Pro flavor jumps to a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB SSD (with an option to move to 256GB for an additional $150).

The gamepad controller accessory will set you back another $249.99, but turns the Edge into a (relatively) portable gaming tablet. Other accessories include a $99.99 docking station, extended battery pack for $69.99, and a keyboard dock that's still unavailable for pre-order.

The Razer Edge will clearly be a niche product, but its specs are fairly competitive with other Windows 8 tablets for the price. Of course, battery life and heat may be more of a concern with this model. Do you have any interest in buying the Razer Edge? Let us know in the Talkback section below.

  • I've Been interested in this.......

I want a real laptop replacement and products like this are in that direction.
  • Interest =/= Purchase

Am I interested? Yes, very much so. Will I be purchasing it? Probably not... Far too expensive. I would understand the $1300 price tag if it at least included the controllers, but paying an extra $250 for those is outrageous. I really wanted this to succeed, but their pricing scheme seems WAY too greedy.
