"We've had [seat selection] for a while and widened it to include all our customers," said Sophia Connelly, spokesperson for Qantas. The new feature was made available on 30 March.

The seat selection fee does not apply to: domestic flights; first, business and premium economy passengers; or passengers who are platinum, gold or silver frequent flyers.

Advanced seat selection provides Qantas (but not QantasLink) customers with greater ability to enjoy their flight experience, with the added option of selecting where they want to be seated, said Connelly.

Free online check-in for international flights is allowed 24 hours before the flight is due to depart.
