Red Hat has added new business process management (BPM) capabilities to its arsenal after striking a deal with Spainish software company Polymita.

The newly-acquired Polymita platform will be added to Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Middleware, the company said on Wednesday.

The acquisition marks a significant stepping up of Red Hat's BPM ambitions, following its recent addition of BPM into JBoss Enterprise Business Rules Management System (BRMS).

The software acquired from Barcelona-based Polymita will be made open source in time, according to Red Hat, and combined with existing community projects.

A roadmap for the combined Polymita-Red Hat software will be out later this year, Red Hat said.

For the meantime, Red Hat will continue to support Polymita's user base. "Existing Polymita customers will continue to receive maintenance and support for the software and professional services for their Polymita implementations from Polymita. Over time, these customers will be offered renewals for additional support and services from Red Hat," the company said.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • Why Polymita instead of Ekuar BPM?

It’s not clear why Red Hat acquired Polymita instead of Ekuar BPM. Polymita BPM was nothing else that Ekuar BPM plus Open Symphony (which was already Open Source).
