Report: 10M Galaxy S III devices to be sold by July

Samsung's latest smartphone--the Galaxy S III--is expected to clock in 10 million unit sales by July, just two months after its introduction in the market.
A Xinhua report on Monday cited Shin Jong-Kyun, president and head of Samsung's mobile communications business, as saying that the Samsung Galaxy S III is expected to "see its global sales top 10 million units in July". It will also become the "fastest 10-million-seller in Samsung's history", he added.
The report stated that after the smartphone's debut in London in May, it will now be rolled out to 302 wireless carriers in 147 countries worldwide by the end of July.
Ovum's principal analyst at Ovum had said the Galaxy S III plays an important role in helping Samsung consolidate its position at the top of the mobile industry, competing not only with other Android players such as HTC and Sony Mobile Communications, but also Apple and its iPhone devices.
As such, he pointed out that the Korean phonemaker will have to decide whether to own its software and service platform to mitigate the risk of other manufacturers producing a more desirable Android device.
