Retina MacBook Pros get fourth-gen Intel chip; price drop
Apple upgraded its high-end Retina MacBooks today with the latest Intel processor technology and a $200 price drop.
At its fall event in San Francisco today Apple announced a speed bump to the top-of-the-line MacBook Pro line of professional notebooks. The new (Late 2013) Retina MacBook Pros get the following features:
13-inch
- Fourth generation Intel core processors (Haswell)
- Intel Iris graphics (90 percent faster)
- Up to 9 hour battery life (iTunes video streaming)
- PCIe flash drives (up to 1TB)
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
- Thunderbolt 2
- Starting at $1299 (formerly $1499)
15-inch
- Fourth generation Intel core processor (Crystal Well)
- Intel Iris Pro graphics
- Up to 8 hour battery life (iTunes video streaming)
- PCIe flash drives (up to 1TB)
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
- Thunderbolt 2
- Starting at $1999 (formerly $2199)
The main takeaway with the new MacBook Pro is the new Haswell and Crystal Well processors which increase battery run time and the new 2013 form-factor is thinner (0.71 inches) and lighter (3.46 pounds) than last year's model. The new MacBook Pros are available for immediate order and are available to ship within 24 hours.
