    Don't bother
I went to Staples and said I need a printer to print ENVELOPES. That was my primary goal. I was told what a great printer this was and it should do everything a small business owner needs. It has been a pain in the neck ever since. It was cheap, so I guess I got what I paid for. The print quality stinks unless you use a ton of ink. Alignment issues. Envelopes? Ha. It's set up for 2 sizes and that is IT. Getting the wireless set up was fun, too. My advise? Just don't bother. This was is as big a pain as my Epson R1800.

RE: RE: This should be a great machine, but memory leaks make it useless
This is one of those typical 'full featured' sales that simply does not even come close. Google this unit on 'memory leak' and 'ink usage' for starters. We have 3 current business machines (also HP) - great processors and tons of ram - and the resulting memory leak from even the most basic components from the HP software is brutal. If you monitor memory usage, from the first use of the printer, you can watch the HP components eat up memory until it either forces a restart, or you get a blue screen. HP front line support has no information, and will waste 40 minutes on the uninstall/reinstall (tried their precise procedure 3 times after that as well), with no resolution. If you force the issue and demand a more senior support member, you may actually get someone who will acknowledge it as a known issue, but they are doing nothing to resolve it! This is baffling, as it basically makes the machine unusable. HP - Don't waste our time with all of the empty photo editing software and the like, fix the drivers. Apparently the professional reviewers above are shipped more robust drivers for their reviews ;o) Perhaps the baseline testing for the reviews should include a day or two of 'standard usage' testing.

    No good for business
The wireless works about half the time. This is not acceptable in business, when something needs to be scanned and sent.

RE: HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One
Worst HP Printer I ever bought!!! Very inconsistent printer. Doesn't recognize when new print cartridges installed. When I tried to print duplex it printed mirror image for a 40 page document - now I have to buy more ink!!! Constantly loses driver information and I have to reinstall. Not worth the aggravation

RE: RE: HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One
This is the worst printer I have ever had. I bought it last Oct. and it worked fine on both our laptops. It was very slow. And you can only print one job at a time. Then my laptop stopped working with it. I tried everything including tech support, waste of time. Run, don't walk to some other printer.

RE: RE: HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One
don't bother - we bought two because they were cheap. Fax doesn't work most of the time. Scanning is inconsistent - you need to unplug the machine to switch between flat and feeder. Same with envelops and any labels. I would give it 0 if I could. Useless.

RE: HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One
Decent for Photos, but how often does one use that? Fax is OK, but who uses that technology anymore? Copying is super, super slow. Printing 8.5 X 11 is just OK. Scanning is good. Ink is expensive and I'm always needing more. Envelopes? Forget about it!! False paper jam and outage reports are cleared by running test reports (at least temporarily). Who's got time for this nonsense?

Back using my Apple LaserWriter 16/600PS-The best I've ever used

RE: HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One
The C309a printer quality is good, but the operation is unreliable due to paper jams. The cost of the cartridges are ridiculous . . . and most annoying of all, the printer takes forever to adjust itself between jobs . . . it chatters, clicks and realigns itself for 60-90 seconds before starting. NOT a good choice for business use.

RE: HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One
    HP C309A from hell...
Had an HP Deskjet all-in-one for years. At 10,000 copies, the feeder died. So I got a new one from Costco. Went against my intuition for an Officejet and got this one.
Huge mistake. It's just over a year old. It has eaten up more print cartridges than imaginable (even on grayscale printing with light ink) and now all we get is "head alignment failure". It's shot. HP even says so. we're lucky if we got 250 pages out of it (it's been non-functional most of the year we've had it).
Never could get the WiFi to work. I am an advanced PC user too. A waste of investment in the hardware and so trying on my patience.
I'm giving it away for parts on FreeCycle, although my preference would be to take a sledgehammer to it (petty, maybe; satisfying, absolutely). I wouldn't sell the POS; that would be unfair to someone else.
I will likely NEVER buy HP again. Probably go with Canon.
