Electronics manufacturer Samsung still plans to launch its 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab tablet device despite being embroiled in ongoing litigation with Apple over alleged patent infringements.

Bloomberg reported on Monday that Samsung and Apple had come to an agreement which involved Samsung not selling or advertising the device in Australia until the patent spat had been settled.

However, Samsung issued a statement on Tuesday which confirmed that the agreement only covered the US version of the device, which the company had no intention of selling in Australia in the first place.

"No injunction was issued by the court and the parties in the case reached a mutual agreement which stipulates that the variant in question will not be sold in Australia," the company said.

Samsung did not say exactly when the device would go on sale Down Under, specifying only "in the near future".

The Android-powered Galaxy Tab 10.1 is set to hit UK retailers' shelves on Thursday.
