The Android Gingerbread-based Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus will be available to buy in the UK from Saturday.

The device was announced at the beginning of January ahead of CES 2012 and went on sale first in Russia before being gradually rolled out across Europe. It will be available to buy in the UK from 17 March, Samsung confirmed on Friday.

The handset has a 1GHz processor, 3.65-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera and 3GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded by an additional 32GB via a microSD card. It runs Android 2.3, otherwise known as Gingerbread.

The device joins higher specified and more expensive devices in the Galaxy range, such as the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and imminently expected Galaxy S 3.

At the lower end of the market, the device will have to fend off competitor handsets from the likes of Huawe and ZTE, and Windows Phone competition such as the Nokia Lumia 610.
