SAP has launched version 4.0 of its business intelligence and enterprise information management platform, BusinessObjects.
Three years in the making, the new version of the analytics platform was introduced on Wednesday, after being trailed in October by the German software maker at its TechEd conference.
SAP BusinessObjects 4.0, previously code-named Aurora, will be able to integrate structured and unstructured data, as well as data from social networks, the company said in its announcement. The aim is to allow companies to have a coherent way of working with a range of business intelligence (BI) and enterprise information management (EIM) projects, whether the analytics are delivered on demand, on premise or within a business operation.
The update is the first to introduce a consistent design across various clients such as Xcelcius, Crystal and Explorer, according to SAP.
In addition, SAP said it had begun selling new analytics applications for the media, oil and gas, healthcare, insurance and life sciences industries, as well as the public sector. BusinessObjects now has 16 applications for specific sectors.
