SAP announced this morning its new enterprise mobility management product family, Mobile Secure, which promises increased security for the devices, apps and content used by businesses on the go.

The announcement was made at the company's Sapphire Now customer conference in Orlando, Florida.

Core to the news is a software-as-a-service edition of SAP's Afaria mobile device management service. That product gives IT departments the ability to manage both corporate and personal mobile devices. This cloud-based offering is a more nimble approach to handling the bring-your-own-device conundrum, and represents the latest step in SAP's ongoing, sometimes uneasy relationship with the cloud. ("With or without any prior SAP infrastructure," the press release says. Ahem.)

Bundled into the product are analytic dashboards from SAP's BusinessObjects family. It's available now on Google Android, Apple iOS and Microsoft Windows Phone 8 mobile operating systems. A free 30-day trial is also available.

The company also announced a partnership with mobile security vendor Mocana to resell its Mobile App Protection product under the SAP banner and within the new Mobile Secure lineup. The joint offering intends to help enterprises secure existing corporate and third-party applications (e.g. adding authentication, FIPS 140-2 encryption, per-app VPN) without having to write any code.
