The refreshed edition of the popular Asus Transformer Book T100 is now available in the US, with a unique feature.
I was impressed with this 2-in-1 when I bought it six months ago and it still meets my needs.
The idea of a transformer device that lets you switch between a tablet and phone sounds good, but we have yet to see great execution even though Asus keeps on trying.
The 10.1-inch Transformer Book T100 is a well made and attractively priced hybrid Windows 8.1 tablet. However, its moderate specification and small size make it difficult to recommend as your primary Windows device.
The interest in this economical hybrid is off the charts so it's time to share what I like about it along with what I wish was better.

The T100 from Asus tries to be both a good tablet and solid laptop. It succeeds at both.
This gadget whisperer has the tables turned as the Transformer T100 hybrid is close to drawing me into its lair.
The 10.1-inch Android-based Transformer Pad TF701T has a decent specification, including a quad-core processor, a high-resolution screen and good battery life from its tablet and keyboard batteries. The design could use a refresh though.
In addition to jumping on the Windows Phone 8 bandwagon, the mobile carrier is trying its hand at hawking Windows 8 slates.
The Transformer Pad implements a number of cost-saving measures and consequently lacks the sparkle of the Eee Pad Transformer Prime. Still, the Pad is significantly cheaper than the Prime, so you may well be prepared to accept the trade-off.
CSIRO today confirmed it had initiated patent infringement lawsuits in the US District Court against carriers AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon over its much sought-after Wi-Fi patent.
Asus kicked off the netbook craze about 18 months ago with its original Eee PC, and now the line has graduated to Windows 7 and a multi-touch, swiveling screen that turns the T101MT into a tablet PC. The T91 was the first Eee PC that worked as a convertible tablet, but it had a smaller 8.
An apparently leaked roadmap for popular computer manufacturer Asus reveals the roadmap for the company's popular Eee PC franchise, including a 12-inch, $499 laptop based on Nvidia's Ion platform and its T91 tablet system with Windows 7 multitouch capabilities.
Asus' Eee PC T91 touchscreen tablet netbook first debuted at CES 2009 way back in January to high hopes: a fairly inexpensive ($499) touchscreen tablet PC for the masses.Turns out you're better off sticking to your iPod touch.
We missed recording a show last week since I was in line for my iPhone 3GS, the first time, and so now have our second show of the week for you all to enjoy. James, Kevin, and I all started off MobileTechRoundup show #176 by talking about the announcement of the new HTC Hero and HTC Sense UI coming later this year. Palm seems to be doing well with Pre downloads, but needs to get their SDK out for applications to start filling up the Palm App Catalog. Kevin mentioned that iPhone tethering works with a simple provisioning file and then we each told how much we would be willing to pay for the service that should be coming to AT&T a bit later. There are a couple of slick new netbooks available from HP and ASUS and Kevin has one in his shopping cart. There won't be a show next week since we'll be off enjoying the 4th of July.
O2 has launched a mobile broadband plan that includes a 'free' netbook — the last UK operator to do so. Here's a look at that and all the other netbook bundles on offer
It seems T-Mobile is set to enter the netbook fray, joining the embedded-3G tie-in game already being played by rivals Orange and Vodafone.I haven't been able to get hold of anyone at T-Mobile this fine Christmas Eve, but the usually-reliable Mobile Today website is reporting that the operator will start selling mobile broadband bundles, including some-or-other Asus Eee PC, on Boxing Day.
Under the auspices of the GSM Association, 16 companies, including Microsoft, Dell and Vodafone, have announced plans to support LTE connectivity in upcoming devices
At a trade show in Berlin, T-Mobile confirmed that it will sell an Asus Eee PC 901 netbook with built-in 3G. If the prices on these bundles come close to what's been rumored, they could start to catch on.
James, Kevin, and I spent most of MobileTechRoundup show #115 talking about UMPC and ultra portable devices, particularly the Vye S37 and Asus EEE PC. We also chatted about the new T-Mobile Shadow I picked up this week and the cool Neo Home screen and plugins. There were a couple of new podcasts launched or launching that we talked about at the end of the show too so make sure to check them out.
