MWC 2012: Asus teases 3-in-1 Padfone for Monday

Asus has released a couple of 17-second video teasers (below) for the expected launch of its innovative Padfone, and what appears to be a high-resolution Android tablet. Both devices will be unveiled on Monday, 27 February, at the Mobile World Congress 2012 exhibition.

Asus to launch Padfone at Mobile World Congress

Asus is planning to launch its Padfone hybrid computer -- which can combine a mobile phone, a tablet and a notebook -- at the Mobile World Congress on 27 February. Asus co-founder Jonney Shih first showed the innovative device at the Computex trade show in Taiwan last year.

Maingear upgrades eX-L gaming laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 DirectX 11-supporting graphics

After racing ahead on the desktop late last year with Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, ATI is finally starting to equip gaming laptops with its Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics—which, like its desktop sibling, supports DirectX 11—after it was announced in January at CES. First, Asus announced the G73Jh, and now Maingear has revamped its eX-L gaming laptop around the new graphics chip as well as the latest Intel mobile processors.

Asus announces first laptops using Nvidia Optimus switchable graphics

Along with Nvidia's announcement today that it's upgraded its Hybrid SLI switchable graphics mobile solution to the company's new Optimus technology, Asus has disclosed the first five laptops that will support the graphics platform, ranging from thin-and-lights to bigger, more multimedia-friendly machines.The UL50VF-A1 (pictured above) is the one that's making the rounds of reviewers, including PC Magazine and Laptop Magazine.

Garmin, ASUS announce location-centric mobile phones

In a move that seems as tone deaf as the SanDisk slotMusic player, Garmin and ASUS today announced that they will join forces to manufacture and distribute co-branded location-centric mobile phones.The Garmin-Asus nüvifone series will encompass several models in 2009, with the first to be announced shortly at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain from February 16-19 of this year.

Android on netbooks is BIG money for Google

The guys at VentureBeat succeeded (after only a couple hours) in getting Google's Android operating system to work on an Asus EEEPC 1000H. During their experiment, they stumbled across some interesting tidbits in the code that pretty much spills the beans on Google's plan for Android on "mobile internet devices" or MID's.

T-Mobile plans Boxing Day netbook push

It seems T-Mobile is set to enter the netbook fray, joining the embedded-3G tie-in game already being played by rivals Orange and Vodafone.I haven't been able to get hold of anyone at T-Mobile this fine Christmas Eve, but the usually-reliable Mobile Today website is reporting that the operator will start selling mobile broadband bundles, including some-or-other Asus Eee PC, on Boxing Day.
