APAC PC market shrinks in 2012

Yearly PC shipment in Asia-Pacific, excluding Japan, shrinks for first time last year clocking 121 million units. Lenovo and Asus are the only two vendors to see positive year-on-year growth.

IDF 2012: Has the convertible PC's time finally come?

Asus Transformer 300 coming soon at £399

Asus has announced that the Transformer Pad 300T, its low-cost version of the quad-core Transformer Prime, will go on sale for £399 including VAT next month. Asus says it will be available from Currys and PC World from late May, and in all retailers from late June.

Transforming Ultrabooks coming for Windows 8

PC manufacturers are planning to introduce "transforming" Ultrabooks with multi-touch screens in order to exploit the capabilities of Microsoft Windows 8, according to Taiwan's Digitimes. Asus already sells a Transformer that runs the Android operating system, but Digitimes' sources "noted that most of the transforming designs are rotatable screen models".

Thunderbolt due to strike Windows PCs in 2012

Thunderbolt, Intel's high-speed communications protocol, is coming to Windows PCs in 2012.Acer and Asus should bring out Windows devices — including Ultrabooks — that support the high-speed interconnect technology next year, Mooly Eden, Intel's general manager of PC client devices, told attendees at the Intel Developer Forum on Wednesday.
