AT&T's "problem" customers get the blame

Fortune Magazine swallows the AT&T pitch hook, line and sinker in a story titled "Bandwidth hogs — iPhones and other smartphones." Writer Jon Fortt dishes up a steaming dish of bull shoveled straight out of AT&T PR:Now the wireless providers hawking those Internet-enabled mobile devices are experiencing the digital equivalent of being proprietors of an all-you-can-eat buffet: It seems like the perfect business until the sumo wrestlers show up.

Review: T-Mobile Cameo connected digital photo frame

My wife bought me a digital photo frame for Christmas, but wasn't sure if it was high enough resolution or if it would work well as an accessory for my office. It turns out the resolution was too low so we returned it. I told her about the T-Mobile Cameo that was announced in November 2008. I just recently was able to get an eval unit from T-Mobile and after trying it for just a day I ran out to my local Seattle T-Mobile store and purchased one for myself. Check out my image gallery of the product and my thoughts below to see why I found it so compelling.

Image Gallery: T-Mobile Cameo digital photo frame

The T-Mobile Cameo is a wirelessly connected digital photo frame with its own phone number. The Cameo allows you to quickly and easily send photos from your phone or email account to the frame and have them appear with very little effort on the part of the frame owner. The Cameo is a great way to share vacation photos with those left at home too and is priced very competitively.

Review: T-Mobile Samsung Memoir 8 megapixel camera phone

The line between feature phones and smartphones continues to blur and in some cases we are seeing feature phones that are more powerful than smartphones. T-Mobile and Samsung now have the Memoir available for US$249.99 after mail-in rebate (US$50) and T-Mobile contract of minimum service. The major distinguishing feature of the Memoir is that it has an 8 megapixel digital camera with Xenon flash and if you look at the phone you may actually think it is a camera more than a phone. I have been playing with the Memoir for a few hours and post some thoughts on it below, along with a small image gallery and video of the new phone.

T-Mobile rolls out BlackBerry 8820 with GPS and Hotspot @Home functionality

I've been using the BlackBerry Pearl I won at CES for a month or so and am enjoying the BlackBerry experience with T-Mobile. Today T-Mobile announced the availability of the T-Mobile BlackBerry 8820, which is essentially the Curve with integrated GPS. This new BlackBerry device also supports the T-Mobile HotSpot @Home Mobile WiFi service as well. As you can see on the T-Mobile page you can buy this device now for US$349.99 after rebate and service activation. This seems to be a device for the professional though, as a digital camera is not included with the device.

On key Internet digital content policing issue: Verizon good, AT&T bad

Saul Hansell, the thought-leader  on the NY Times Bits blog, has a very interesting conversation with Tom Tauke, Verizon's executive veep for public affairs.Although Tauke doesn't specifically mention Verizon's largest direct telco competitor AT&T, he- unlike AT&T, isn't enthusiastic about doing the bidding of major digital content copyright holders by policing potentially infringing content on its network.
