UK Border Agency IT system running again after crash

A UK Border Agency IT system crashed on Thursday, leaving hundreds of foreign nationals unable to get their biometric visas and residence permits.It is not yet clear which system was affected by the outage, but the BBC reported on Thursday that some people at the Croydon Enquiry Office in south London broke down in tears when they were turned away from their appointments.

Sony held its annual "Christmas in July" event in London yesterday to give the press a peek at forthcoming products, including all-in-one computers, cameras, TV sets, audio systems, and a new ultra-light, ultra-thin Vaio Z designed to out-feature all of Apple's MacBooks. Sony's two new tablets, the S1 and S2, showed up, albeit sealed in a glass case.

BT trials white-space broadband on Bute

BT is trialling the use of the so-called white spaces between TV broadcasts for the delivery of high-speed broadband, the company has revealed.On Tuesday, BT Openreach said it was conducting the trial on the Isle of Bute in Scotland, with partners including the University of Strathclyde, BBC Research and Development, Steepest Ascent, Berg Design and Netpropagate.

BBC launches iPad and Android iPlayer apps

The BBC has released iPad and Android iPlayer apps as part of its plans to deliver iPlayer content to a range of different devices.The apps — which allows streaming of BBC TV and radio content — include many of the features from the desktop version, such as series stacking, access to catch-up TV from the last seven days and live TV and radio streaming.

BBC brings iPlayer app to BlackBerry devices

An official BBC iPlayer app that allows users to stream live television and radio, as well as catch-up on previously aired content is now available to download for BlackBerry devices. Older content will be able accessible for up to seven days after its airing date, according to the listing.
