TalkTalk 'most complained-about ISP' for fifth time

TalkTalk has maintained its position as the UK's most complained-about broadband provider for the fifth quarter running.The company beat fellow ISPs Sky, BT, Orange and Virgin to hold onto the dubious honour for the first quarter of this year, according to data published by communications regulator Ofcom on Tuesday.

London getting more competitive for leased-line fibre

BT is likely to enjoy lighter controls on the amount it can charge for its leased lines in London, under proposals revealed by Ofcom on Monday.Leased lines offer high-end fibre connectivity as a retail product for business customers, and also as a wholesale product for smaller telcos that resell fixed and mobile broadband services.

HomeServe fined £750k over excessive silent calls

The home insurance and repairs firm HomeServe has been fined £750,000 by Ofcom, after the telecoms regulator found it had been making an excessive number of silent and abandoned calls to consumers.The fine, the first to be ordered since the maximum penalty was drastically increased in 2010, was levied on Thursday after an investigation that began last year.

UK internet use increases 50 percent in five years

People in the UK are becoming increasingly comfortable with the internet and are spending 50 percent more time online than they were five years ago, a media literacy survey by Ofcom has shown.The telecoms regulator said on Thursday that 50 percent of people had "concerns over the internet", which is significantly down the 70 percent who had such concerns in 2007.

Vodafone: Ofcom has 'taken leave of its senses'

Mobile operator Vodafone has accused Ofcom of "taking leave of its senses" in its decision to allow Everything Everywhere to forge ahead with a 4G rollout before 2013, according to reports.The telecoms regulator said on 13 March that it was "minded" to allow Everything Everywhere to refarm its 2G spectrum to provide 4G services using the 1800MHz frequency, prompting the response from Vodafone in The Sunday Times.

Almost 1m households to be hit by 4G interference

More than 900,000 UK households could be affected by 4G interference to digital TV, according to upcoming Ofcom figures.Previous figures from the regulator put the worst case scenario at 760,000 households to be affected by 4G mobile.
