HP cutting IT workforce 58% by 2008

Speaking at a conference in Singapore, HP CIO Randy Mott explained how his company is going to be a poster child for automating IT. The former Dell CIO said HP is targeting a spend of only 25 percent of IT resources on support and the other 75 percent on innovations by 2008.

Curtin Uni creates CIO position

Perth's Curtin University has created a new chief information officer (CIO) position, with the spot yet to be filled. Confirming the move in an e-mail to ZDNet Australia, a spokesperson for the university said the newly created position would be responsible for ICT resources, service delivery and partnerships.

Maestro CIO wanted for Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is stepping up moves to appoint its first-ever chief information officer (CIO) as the Australian icon upgrades management of its technology and information resources. A spokesperson for the Opera House -- Australia's leading performing arts centre and one of the nation's most recognisable symbols globally -- told ZDNet Australia the new appointee would report to the acting director of finance and systems, Lindsay Kelly.
