HP CEO swap: Whitman in, Apotheker out

HP named former eBay chief Meg Whitman as its eighth CEO since 1999 and second one in the last year. Whitman has to take on a massive to-do list, stop HP's slide and either continue the company's current strategy or invent a new one.

IBM updates Power7 hardware

IBM has refreshed its Power7 range of servers and processors with upgraded hardware, two new blades and a speed boost to the underlying Power7 processors. The company announced the revised systems and hardware on Tuesday.

Intel Rides Out...

Lots to digest in Intel's latest announcement about its many-core strategy. The new Many Integrated Core architecture (MIC, pronounced "Mike" as in Mike Magee) doesn't have many details available yet, except that the first Knights Ferry platform is basically Larrabee and the next one, Knights Corner, basically isn't.

Saying good bye - Microsoft is dropping Itanium

The current buzz is that Microsoft's Windows 2008 Server R2 will be the last version of the operating system that will support Intel's Itanium.  My colleague Mary Jo Foley posted Microsoft pulls the plug on future Itanium support on April 5th on this very topic.
