ACS:Law fails in default judgement attempt

ACS:Law, a legal firm that sent hundreds of letters to people claiming breaches of copyright law, has failed in an attempt to have default judgements made against eight people it has accused of copyright infringment.Default judgements were not appropriate for such a complex legal case, as they are meant for administrative work, Judge Birss ruled at the London Patents County Court at the beginning of December.

London protesters slam US copyright laws

LONDON--Protesters gathered outside the US Embassy in London this afternoon to call for the immediate release of Dmitry Sklyarov, the Russian programmer who was arrested by the FBI for creating software that circumvented the copyright protection mechanism in Adobe's eBook reader. Thirty-three activists arrived an hour late in Grosvenor Square, at 2pm, laden with banners such as "Visit the USA, go to jail".
