Microsoft embraces Hadoop for data analytics

Microsoft will offer its own distribution of the Hadoop data processing framework for Windows Server and Azure.The move, announced by Microsoft's corporate vice president, Ted Kummert, at the Pass Summit on Wednesday, will see Microsoft work with Yahoo-spinoff Hortonworks on developing a distribution of Hadoop tuned for its software.

Fuzzy logic won't do in tech

Earlier this week, local papers reported that access to information--on bus arrival times--used in Singapore third-party mobile apps had been cut off by the country's primary bus operator, SBS Transit. Over 10 of such apps including SG Buses, SG NextBus and ShowNearby, with a user base of 1 million, had relied on SBS Transit's Intelligence Route Information System (Iris) to provide the data.

India still demanding RIM BES email access

The Indian government has not blocked BlackBerry Enterprise Server services within the country, even though Research In Motion did not meet the 31 January deadline to comply with its demands.The Indian authorities are still demanding that the BlackBerry maker provide access to corporate email services that use BlackBerry Enterprise Server, according to The Economic Times of India.
