With 600 million sales, Windows 7 closes on XP

Microsoft has sold 600 million copies of Windows 7, and it now has around 40 percent of the installed base, according to Steven Guggenheimer, corporate vice president of Microsoft's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) division. This information was, however, incidental to his keynote speech at the Computex trade exhibition in Taiwan, which was mainly concerned with promoting Windows 8.

Microsoft embraces Hadoop for data analytics

Microsoft will offer its own distribution of the Hadoop data processing framework for Windows Server and Azure.The move, announced by Microsoft's corporate vice president, Ted Kummert, at the Pass Summit on Wednesday, will see Microsoft work with Yahoo-spinoff Hortonworks on developing a distribution of Hadoop tuned for its software.

More details emerge about Dell's forthcoming Windows 7 tablet, Rosemount

Seemingly always prone to leaks, Dell had its road map for forthcoming phones and tablets leaked the other day, and now Engadget has received more details about the company's Windows 7 tablet, code-named Rosemount and due in June.First off, the tablet will be given Latitude branding and, as such, will be geared toward the corporate world.
