WA cracks down on website data-scraping practices

Western Australia's Department of Mines and Petroleum is revamping its online systems after claims that some companies have been using special software to 'scrape' data from the department's online system in order to gain an edge in claiming surrendered mining tenements.

UK Anonymous branch takes down DWP site

A UK branch of Anonymous called the ATeam has claimed responsibility for taking down the website of the Department for Work and Pensions.The group launched a distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) website on Friday afternoon after a Channel 4 'Dispatches' documentary found that the DWP had disciplined 992 staff in ten months over data offences.

Europe-wide draft law seeks to criminalise hacking

Cyberattacks could become a criminal offence across Europe punishable by at least two years in jail under a draft law cleared by a European Parliament committee on Tuesday.Attacks against a website, network or database, and attempts to interfere with or illegally intercept data, would see two years in prison under proposals backed by the European Parliament Civil Liberties Committee.

Doc never realized so much forest land is privately owned, and learned a lot by visiting the NAFO website. Of course, it's an industry group so you have to balance the information there, but much of the data comes from third-party sources.
