UK Anonymous branch takes down DWP site

A UK branch of Anonymous called the ATeam has claimed responsibility for taking down the website of the Department for Work and Pensions.The group launched a distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) website on Friday afternoon after a Channel 4 'Dispatches' documentary found that the DWP had disciplined 992 staff in ten months over data offences.

Europe-wide draft law seeks to criminalise hacking

Cyberattacks could become a criminal offence across Europe punishable by at least two years in jail under a draft law cleared by a European Parliament committee on Tuesday.Attacks against a website, network or database, and attempts to interfere with or illegally intercept data, would see two years in prison under proposals backed by the European Parliament Civil Liberties Committee.

School hacked by pupil gets ICO reprimand

Almost 20,000 personal details were exposed after a Hampshire school was hacked in March, according to data protection watchdog the Information Commissioner's Office.A group of hackers, which included a student at the school, broke into the Bay House School website, and discovered a staff member's password.
