Google demos 'Earth' app on new Android OS

At Google's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., Senior Product Manager Erick Tseng demos Google Earth for Android. The new app mirrors the Google Earth application on the desktop. The app also supports the voice features in Google Earth, searching for geographic locations like "Mount Fuji."

Google releases source for Google Update

Word came down from the Google-plex last Friday that the company has decided to release the source code for Google Update. Codenamed Omaha, Update is a software installer that automatically updates Google Earth, Chrome, and other Google-produced apps designed to run on Windows.

Google Patent app describes efficient database storage of Google Maps, Google Earth objects

A new Google Patent application entitled Ranking and Clustering of Geo-Located Objects appears to describe a method in which geographical location objects of the type seen in Google Earth and Google Maps would be more efficiently classified in a database.This is potentially very helpful for third-party licensors of Google mapping tools, and perhaps even for power mashers who work with these utilities.
