It's one thing when new-tech fan-boys squeal with delight over Google's new social network, but when a grandmaster of communication technology says it's a game changer, you should listen.
Before I offer my two cents about this week's Google Voice news, I should probably note that I am a huge fan of the service and have been using it since it was Grand Central - before the acquisition by Google. It's also worth noting that I use an Android phone on the Verizon network.
I briefly tried the myTouch 3G and then went and bought the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 thinking these would be the best T-Mobile USA 3G smartphones for a while. We then saw the Nokia N900 announced with support for T-Mobile's 1700 MHz 3G network and I preordered one for myself. Today at the Mobilize 09 conference we heard from Motorola that the CLIQ will be coming to T-Mobile USA this Fall so we will get yet another powerful Google Android device and 3G smartphone on T-Mobile. I was thinking Sprint customers were lucky with all of their new devices (Palm Pre and Pixi, HTC Hero, Touch Pro2) and now we are seeing T-Mobile USA having plenty of options for the smartphone fan and as a long-time T-Mobile customer I couldn't be happier.
I am a major hometown sports fan and was pleased to see Ken Griffey, Jr. come back to the Mariners for a final season or two. Our home opener is tomorrow and there will be something else new this year for Mariner fans. Nintendo of America is the majority owner of the M's baseball team and for a couple of years they have had the cool Nintendo Fan Network in place that provided DS owners the ability to watch highlight videos, check out stats, and more over the free wireless network. According to The Seattle Times Nintendo is letting the first 150 people who request to borrow a DSi at each game use it while they are at the stadium to access the upgraded Nintendo Fan Network. I just recently purchased and posted my thoughts on my own black DSi and now it looks like I need to bring it to the game with me along with my pack of red licorice and glove.
Facebook, you make me cry.Today the social network introduced it's new homepage layout and a new look and feel for its fan pages, aka the pages that many brands and their customers are using to interact with each other.
Fintapia is a new app for any Miami Dolphins fans. Stay up to date with the latest articles, Tweets, stats, standings, roster, and...
Earlier in the month, Citrix analyst relations sent me a message laying out the company's plans to offer client software, a "Reciever" in Citrix-speak, allowing the iPhone to display Windows applications that are presented by Citrix's XenApp (formally presentation manager). Since I'm a big fan of making applications available "any time, anywhere, over any reasonable network and on any reasonable device," I applaud Citrix's efforts.
I am a huge fan of Sling Media's Slingbox device and have used the Classic model for the last couple of years to watch TV on computers throughout my house and while on business trips. Dave Zatz sent in the press release announcing that EchoStar Communications Corp (you probably know them as DISH Network) is purchasing Sling Media for approximately US$380 million. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and I imagine that DISH Network subscribers will see the first benefits of this acquisition with some added functionality to their system.
