Google snaps up Quickoffice and Meebo

Google has bought the mobile productivity firm Quickoffice in a bid to make its Google Apps product suite more compatible with various file formats, the search giant said on Tuesday.Quickoffice provides word processing and other office task functions for smartphones and tablets, including those running Google's Android operating system, and iOS-based devices such as the iPad and iPhone.

Zamzar launches free file conversion via email

The Zamzar website, which converts files between formats, has launched a new service: it will now convert files submitted by email. This could be particular useful to smartphone users who are often emailed files that their device is unable to display.

Adobe releases Reader for iOS

Adobe has put out a version of its PDF reader software for Apple's iOS, addressing devices including the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.The free and fully-featured Adobe Reader hit iTunes on Monday, allowing users to read PDF portfolios and password-protected PDF files.

A tablet Jim, but not as we know it

With Apple's iPad and Android imitators flying of the shelves it's easy to forget that there are other formats, including notebooks that convert into tablets, like Dell's new Latitude XT3.Weighing in at just over 2kg, with the appearance and dimensions of a portly notebook, the Latitude XT3 won't win many iPad converts, but then it's not aimed at that, mainly consumer, market.
