Google has revived the ability for Gmail users to access the web-based email system even when they are not connected to the internet.The company had shut down the capability in May as a result of the decision to kill Gears, Google's erstwhile tool for allowing web apps to run offline.

Google boosts Gmail storage for educational customers

Gmail a go go

Despite my concerns about Google’s überdominance (All Your Data Are Belong To Us), I think many of their web apps are pretty darned useful, and Gmail tops my list. I have Gmail set up with the IMAP mail protocol, using Google Apps for my domain name, so that I can use the Evolution client on Ubuntu, and then when out of the office I can use the Gmail webmail functionality.
