Handset maker HTC has kept its promise to start unlocking bootloaders on a number of its devices, beginning with the HTC Sensation.The change means people can begin to install unofficial software, such as custom ROMs, with the tentative blessing of the manufacturer.

Developers invited to create HTC-only Android apps

HTC has launched a developer site to encourage coders to write apps specifically for its Sense Android user interface.The manufacturer is planning to release an OpenSense software development kit (SDK), chief executive Peter Chou said on Thursday at Qualcomm's Uplinq conference, where he also claimed that HTC was now the second-biggest Android developer after Google itself.

Google bakes fresh Gingerbread for Nexus One, Nexus S

Google has begun rolling out the latest version of its Android operating system, dubbed 'Gingerbread', to customers using Nexus One and Nexus S smartphones.The Nexus handsets are the so-called Google-phones, launched as they are by the software company rather than their manufacturers — HTC for last year's Nexus One, Samsung for the new Nexus S.
