Big-name companies have begun to side give up-and-coming PCI-X a boost over Dell's PCI Express for plugging network cards and other devices into servers.
PCI-SIG, the special interest group in charge of the ubiquitous PCI standard for plugging components such as network cards into computers, has elected new leaders from IBM and Microsoft, the group will announce Wednesday. Tony Pierce, technical evangelist for Microsoft's Hardware Strategy Group, is now chairman and vice president, while Al Yanes, a senior engineer for IBM's eServer Development Group, is president. Previously, Roger Tipley of Compaq Computer was chairman and president. The group also elected Lawrence Lamers from Adaptec to be a director. --Stephen Shankland, Special to ZDNet News
