Windows 8 and Ultrabooks to innovate at Computex

Computex 2012, the world's second-biggest computer show, is expected to showcase numerous innovations based on Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 8 operating system and Intel's trade-marked Ultrabook specification. This will include systems based on both Intel and ARM processors, and there is a vague possibility that one system will run both Windows 8 and Google Android, based on an extremely unspecific "teaser" video released by Asus.

Intel quietly introduces several new Sandy Bridge processors

Ahead of the big launch of its Ivy Bridge chips later this year, Intel has pushed out a handful of new Sandy Bridge processors, including a couple of Core i5 CPUs that lack integrated graphics.While the chip giant has made hay about the improved graphics included with Sandy Bridge, not all consumers wind up using them, preferring a discrete video card instead.

LAS VEGAS - Intel today unveiled the second generation of its Core processors - codenamed "Sandy Bridge" -  playing up the visual elements that will create a new experience in computing, the company said.In a standing-room-only press conference at the Venetian Hotel, company CEO Paul Otellini talked about the next evolution of the PC and the push into evolving categories, including televisions, cars, digital signs and home automation systems.

Dell's flipping Inspiron Duo Tablet brings back memories

Dell showed its forthcoming Inspiron Duo Tablet at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF 2010) but it would be nice if it called it the Dell Flip, or at least the Dell Transformer. It’s a convertible -- it works either as a netbook PC or as an entertainment tablet -- but takes a different approach to swivelling the screen, as show in the video below.

IDF: Is there a new dual-core Atom coming soon?

The chip Intel wants to talk about this week is Sandy Bridge, but the keynote demo of Intel's WiDi wireless display running on an Atom tablet (showing a static image rather than video, but streaming from an Atom-based system for the first time) suggests a new dual-core Atom with added acceleration could be on the way soon - or some other key addition to the Atom platform.
