Google Maps returns to App Store, turns up missing by day's end

Google on Wednesday officially said that a new Google Maps app was available for the iOS platform. However, the app couldn't be found in the Apple iTunes App Store later in the day. Now, iPhone and iPad users won't have Apple's Maps app to kick around anymore?

Apple presents 'the new iPad'

Apple has introduced a new model to its successful iPad range, which it calls 'the new iPad', rather than the iPad 3.The device was launched on Wednesday in San Francisco and brings a number of new hardware features, such as a 5-megapixel camera, high-resolution 'retina' display and quad-core graphics processor for an improved gaming experience.

Can Apple bully its way to a streaming TV service?

Apple may have ultimately earned the upper hand over the music industry with the iTunes store, but its similar bare-knuckled negotiating tactics don't seem to be working as well with the TV industry, according to a recent report in the NY Post.At issue is a streaming TV service that Apple is supposedly trying to develop, presumably to work with a rumored Apple television set (though it could also be a possibility for its Apple TV boxes and even the iPad).

Adobe releases Reader for iOS

Adobe has put out a version of its PDF reader software for Apple's iOS, addressing devices including the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.The free and fully-featured Adobe Reader hit iTunes on Monday, allowing users to read PDF portfolios and password-protected PDF files.

Walmart brings support for streaming video service Vudu to iPad, hopes it works out better than its MP3 store

Walmart has struck out battling digital music rivals, but the company hopes it has more success with Vudu, the online video service that it purchased in 2010 to compete against Netflix and iTunes. Already available on the PlayStation 3 and connected HDTV and Blu-ray players, Vudu is finally catching up to the competition by adding support for the iPad today.

Why I don't really care about 'Open' that much any more

Not a day goes by when someone doesn't email or post a TalkBack to complain about my personal use (and advocation of) of 'closed' hardware and software. iPhone. iPod. Windows Phone. iPad. Kindle. iPad & iOS devices: You can buy Beatles extras but not play them

In the past, Apple touted its iTunes LP format for a richer experience than plain audio, similar in concept to the extras found on DVD movies. The release of the Beatles oeuvre on Tuesday was another chance to highlight the format. However, some customers discovered that while they can purchase the content on an iOS devices such as an iPad or iPhone, these mobile players don't yet support the playing of iTunes LP content.
