TalkTalk 'most complained-about ISP' for fifth time

TalkTalk has maintained its position as the UK's most complained-about broadband provider for the fifth quarter running.The company beat fellow ISPs Sky, BT, Orange and Virgin to hold onto the dubious honour for the first quarter of this year, according to data published by communications regulator Ofcom on Tuesday.

Virgin Media kicks off Pirate Bay blockade

Virgin Media has begun blocking The Pirate Bay, a notorious file-sharing website, days after the High Court ordered ISPs to do so.The High Court said on Monday that Virgin, Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk and O2 would have to stop their customers from accessing The Pirate Bay (TPB) because it illegally provided access to copyright material.

BT faces lower limit on line rental charges

The telecoms regulator Ofcom has come up with new draft caps for how much BT Openreach can charge other ISPs for its wholesale line rental and for local loop unbundling.The reduced rates may lead to lower retail prices for consumers and businesses.

O2 accuses Ofcom over 'state aid' in 4G auction rules

O2 has accused Ofcom of setting rules for the upcoming 4G spectrum auction that constitute state aid for rivals Everything Everywhere and 3.The "spectrum floor" rules were proposed in an attempt to create competition in the 4G market, by making sure Everything Everywhere, O2, Vodafone and Three would all hold enough 4G spectrum to be able to wholesale some connectivity to smaller 'virtual' operators, such as Tesco Mobile or Virgin Mobile.

Tribunal blocks O2 spectrum refarming attempt

O2 has been blocked from using its 2G spectrum to deliver 3G services, because certain EU regulations have not yet come into effect in the UK.Last week, the Competition Tribunal gave its verdict in O2's appeal case against Ofcom, which had turned down an application to let O2 use its GSM spectrum for mobile broadband.

O2 may roll out UK fibre too

European telco O2 (also known as Telefonica Europe) is considering investing in its own fibre-to-the-home network, but wants to wait until Ofcom changes telecommunications regulation before it makes an investment.
