US patent office documents show Android proprietor Google bought 1,023 patents from IBM in August, taking the total number of patents it has picked up from IBM this year to at least 2,053

SCO, it was good to know ya... you coulda been so much more

I read with interest this morning a story in ComputerWorld (more like an obituary) about how SCO said in its most recent SEC filing that there is "substantial doubt" that it will survive. In addition to the meltdown of its lawsuit against IBM, the filing cites its depleted cash position and entry into Chapter 11 as its major woes.

huh? SCO and knowing what I don't know

If the split between copyrigfht and intellectual property is arguably present in the original transaction, wouldn't the new AT&T be compelled to review SCO's allegations with a view to settling or joining the lawsuit - against both Novell and IBM?

SCO keeps disputed code secret

The code at the heart of SCO's legal action against IBM will be revealed only in a closed court. When the SCO Group finally lays its cards on the table in its upcoming lawsuit against IBM, the open-source community won't be given the opportunity to see them.
