Kaspersky Lab has described a bot written entirely in Java which can run on Windows, Mac or Linux. Even the infection method is cross-platform.

Verifying your GNU/Linux installation downloads

Over the years I have not really paid much attention to verifying downloads for the GNU/Linux installation discs when I download them. I used to just download the ISO files, burn them, and sometimes I would use the self-verifying media check that Red Hat does at the very beginning of the installation process.

Oracle OpenWorld: Scott McNealy must be smiling

Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison opened this week's Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco with details on the Exalogic Elastic Cloud. The system, built on 360 64-bit x86 processor cores, is interconnected with an InfiniBand-based I/O fabric and solid-state storage with Oracle WebLogic Server, other enterprise Java Oracle middleware products and a choice of Oracle Solaris or Oracle Linux operating system software.
