Google Chrome 21 is out

Google Chrome version 21.0.1180.60 (21.0.1180.57 for Mac and Linux) is out, fixing 15 security vulnerabilities in the search giant's browser. Strictly from a security perspective, you should upgrade as soon as possible.

Dell launches cloud printing app for Android

Dell has released an Android app that lets users print to network-connected Dell printers, giving the manufacturer a rival to similar cloud-based services from the likes of HP.The company announced the Dell Mobile Print app on Thursday, explaining that it can print directly from other productivity, email, browser, photo and PDF apps.

SkyDrive for Windows

Just before Google finally released Google Drive cloud storage and sync (see our First Take here), Microsoft made some improvements to its own cloud sync and storage service, SkyDrive, including releasing preview Windows and Mac versions of the SkyDrive app that's already available for Windows Phone and iPhone. (There isn't an official SkyDrive app for Android, but Microsoft has endorsed some of the free Android apps like Browser, Portfolio and Cloud Explorer).

Google Drive launches with multiformat search

Google unveiled on Tuesday Google Drive, its online storage system. Allowing users to store any sort of data in Google's cloud, access is through the browser or an app for Windows, Mac OS, Android and, "in the next few weeks", iOS.

Why I don't really care about 'Open' that much any more

Not a day goes by when someone doesn't email or post a TalkBack to complain about my personal use (and advocation of) of 'closed' hardware and software. iPhone. iPod. Windows Phone. iPad. Kindle. TomTom. Windows. Mac. iTunes. Audible.com. The list of closed systems that are supposedly 'verboten' to both use and mention seems endless.Wanna know something? I don't care.

Run any application on Chrome OS

Google's idea of an operating system that consists of only a web browser sounds interesting, and unfortunately, very restrictive. There are a staggering number of applications out there that people use on Windows/Mac/Linux machines -- any of which would give enough reason to avoid switching operating systems.
