Microsoft: Azure PaaS tech could be given away for free

Microsoft has an "ambition" to make some of Windows Azure's platform-as-a-service components free, after the IT giant announced sweeping changes to the service that ratcheted up its competition with Amazon Web Services.On Tuesday Microsoft's general manager for Windows Azure, Bill Hilf, told ZDNet UK that the company is contemplating making some of Azure's PaaS features free in an attempt to spur developer adoption.

Microsoft reduces SQL Azure pricing

Microsoft has reduced the pricing for its SQL Azure cloud database service by as much as 75 percent, and has introduced a 100MB database option.The price reductions came about as a result of "customer feedback and evolving usage patterns", Microsoft announced in a Windows Azure blog post on Tuesday.
