Australia's CSIRO nets £142m in Wi-Fi settlement

Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) has been awarded more than AU$220m (£142m) in an out-of-court settlement in the US concerning its patented Wi-Fi technology.The country's scientific research agency reached the settlement with multiple technology companies in the US — including Lenovo, Acer, Sony and AT&T — on Monday, according to a Reuters report.

Psion/Blackroc GNSS device delivers centimetre accuracy

Earlier this week I met with Tony Jephcott, CEO of data capture specialist Blackroc Technology, and Jonathan Brayshaw from Psion, on whose modular Workabout Pro 3 handheld Blackroc's new Procyon device is based. The Procyon's claim to fame is that it's the first handheld GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) device that, when suitably configured, can deliver 'pinpoint' (1-2cm) accuracy.

CES: Dell unveils new Streak, hints at 10-inch version for businesses coming soon

Dell today unveiled a 7-inch version of its Streak Tablet, a nice piece of hardware that utilizes 4G technology - well, T-Mobile's version of 4G technology. The device, as expected, touts some of the must-haves that all of the players in the tablet space are touting these days: strong processors, widgets and apps, gaming capabilities, rear- and front-facing cameras for video chatting, as well as social networking apps and widgets.

That network is now giving Verizon the means to compete with cable giants such as Comcast. Verizon's wireless unit is also a powerhouse. The company is working to roll out 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in an effort to leapfrog rival AT&T.
