Microsoft, Wikileaks and the nobility of lies

David Gewirtz asks whether  the latest Wikileaks data dump could bring on World War III, because it shows (again) how what we say publicly isn't what we know privately.Savio Rodrigues thinks Microsoft's role in the Novell acquisition could do it great harm, because it shows the company (again) saying one thing about Linux while doing another.

Nokia and IBM announce Lotus Notes Traveler for S60 devices

One thing I like about current Nokia devices is that they are quite open to supporting a wide range of individual and enterprise needs with services and applications designed to help you out. I enjoy their support of Exchange ActiveSync on my E71 and other devices so I was pleased to hear the latest news on a conference call yesterday. Nokia and IBM announced today that they are partnering to bring enterprise users Lotus Notes Traveler to the S60 3rd Edition platform. Gartner data shows that IBM has a 40% share of corporate email revenue and now with Nokia's support of Microsoft Exchange, Novell Groupwise, and others Nokia supports almost all corporate email solutions with their devices.

Novell joins the green gang

Novell has become the latest vendor to sign-up to the Green Grid - a gang of supposedly environmentally minded tech companies that are committed to exchanging ideas around how to make data centers more energy efficient. Novell's contribution seems to be based around the idea that virtualisation, specifically Xen running on the company's Suse Enterprise Linux server, can help drive up server utilisation rates.

Novell joins Sun's Liberty Alliance

Novell, a company whose operating system for Intel servers was largely replaced by Microsoft Windows, has joined the Liberty Alliance Project to simplify how digital identity is handled on the Internet. Novell hopes to contribute its expertise in directory software, which keeps track of data such as usernames, passwords and computing resources a person is allowed to use, the company said Monday. Sun Microsystems spawned the Liberty Alliance Project, with powerful early partners bolstered by the later arrival of AOL Time Warner and American Express. Microsoft has indicated that a warmer relationship is possible, as long as the effort doesn't turn into a Microsoft-bashing gang. --Stephen Shankland, Special to ZDNet News

Novell calls for 'human interface' on networks

Novell Chairman and CEO, Eric Schmidt, wants to bring a "human interface" to computer networks. In last night's keynote address at Novell's annual 'BrainShare' user conference, Schmidt stressed the importance of tying services, applications and data to a networked user, no matter where that user logs on, rather than tying services, data and user to a particular piece of hardware on the network.
