Book review: Microsoft Manual of Style, 4th edition

Whether you're writing a blog, a book, a website or the text for a program's user interface, the more consistent you are the clearer things will be. That's easier when you have a style guide, so you don't have to decide every time whether it's 'Web site', 'web site' or 'website' and whether to say 'sign in' or 'sign on' (sign in is better, unless you're talking about single sign on and getting access to multiple enterprise services with one login).

One of the Defence Materiel Organisation's (DMO) websites has been compromised by hackers, while Panasonic Australia has taken its website down after one of its subdomains was also hacked and then defaced.

Boris backtracks over Twitter account 'hijacking'

London mayor Boris Johnson has returned the official mayoral Twitter account to its original status, after briefly reappropriating it for his own reelection campaign.Johnson caused an outcry on Tuesday when he renamed the @MayorofLondon Twitter account to @BorisJohnson, while also changing the link in the profile from one that pointed to City Hall's website to one that directed users to his campaign site.

Pinterest is taking off in the UK, says Hitwise

Pinterest, the website where users "pin" things of interest, has now taken off in the UK, following its huge success in the USA. Experian Hitwise says the site enjoyed a growth spurt between December and January, when UK Internet visits jumped by 55 percent to 1.
