Psion slump signals sea change for PC cards

Psion shares continued to fall this morning following yesterday's revelation that the company's profits for 1999 would be hit due to poor modem sales, following the rapid switch to embedded modems in notebooks.Psion's share price fell a further 25p as trading started this morning, down to 807.

GSM wins with Motorola, Psion Dacom deal

Hot on the heels of Monday's deal with Dell, Psion Dacom this morning said it has licensed Motorola's cell phone interface, allowing its GSM PC Cards to be used with Motorola cell phones.Under the terms of the agreement, Psion Dacom and Motorola's PC-card division Motorola Communicate will work together to produce an interface kit for Motorola's GSM900, GSM1800 and GSM1900 handsets, which include the Motorola StarTAC, SlimLite and 8000 series digital mobile phones.

UK firm Psion Dacom today announced availability of Gold Card Network (£399 + VAT), a four-function PC Card that combines 33,600bps modem, 14,400 fax, Ethernet and GSM features. A version without GSM is available at £319 + VAT.
